Tarkin

During most scenes, someone will need to take on the role of the "GM," or "Game Master." For the duration of this scene, this individual acts as a referee for the players involved. Being a GM is a big responsibility. It requires a good understanding of the rules, a sense of fair play, and a willingness to sometimes make a call on the spot that might hinder your character.

For instance, Greedo has the drop on Han Solo in a cantina. Han's player pages the scene's GM and tells the GM that he is attempting to secretly draw his pistol. The GM determines that for this scene, a Stealth check would be most appropriate. He pages Greedo's character and asks him to make an opposed Perception check. Depending on the results, the GM might inform Greedo that Han is attempting to draw his pistol or inform Han that he succeeded in bluffing his way past Greedo's observation. And then, as we all know, Han makes a Blaster check.

The most important part of a scene is to keep the flow of dialogue or combat going. Make rolls fast and to the point. Do not argue with your GM excessively about why a skill check should be more or less difficult or bog the scene down in an OOC argument. If you are in a Player vs. Player combat encounter, it's advisable to find someone willing to GM as a neutral third party in order to keep arguments and disagreements to a minimum. We strongly encourage people to volunteer as GMs whenever possible, and you are encouraged to vote for GMs for helping you run a scene. For major events, game staffers are available to help as unbiased third party arbitrators.
